The Medical Humanities: Prof. Yoshiko Matsumoto Talk
'Able Communicators: Observations from a documentary film on persons living with dementia'

Persons living with dementia, such as Alzheimer’s, are often considered to have lost their communicative ability due to the cognitive impairment associated with the medical condition. This talk will question this common perception. A documentary film taken at a memory care center in California shows rich communication both among the memory care residents and with care workers. In fact, the ones who acutely experience communication breakdown in such contexts may be those who are not living with Alzheimer’s.

We have decided to offer a hybrid in-person option for this event and are offering a light dinner. The plan is to meet in the Humanities Center Boardroom at 5:30 PM, located at 424 Santa Teresa Street at Stanford. Please email parasa@stanford.edu if you have any questions.
