@Menelik yes, that’s a good way to think about it. I would add - taxable income is the difference between support received AND any other income (like stuff that generates 1099 forms or W2 forms that get sent to you) minus qualified expenses AND other qualified deductions. Luckily, the filing forms guides you to figure this out.
