Two big forces in order of immediacy: DeFi 2.0 and the emerging global data market. Both push the Cognitive Enterprise.
Thanks Olaf for the great comments.
Everyone are welcome to type your comments in the chat window along the session.
@Olaf , great you mention DeFi ! I actually just finished teaching at UC Berkeley the DataX course, on DeFi Uniswap! and yes with daily billion $ trading volume during covid, DeFi is definitely a "strange" force during the digital transformation in Fintech. https://datax.berkeley.edu/
Digital Transformation is now being overtaken by Cognification (AI automation of decision processes). China is playing an increasingly powerful role in it. Cognification + Chinafication + Future if Surveillance/Privacy Computing defined by US-China-EU dialogue = Globalization 2.0
of not if
Yes. The online learning has become the only game in town. For many students, it is a great convince, for others, lots of the value of education in term of socialization is lost.
Amit is right on: Africa is the next Billion.
Kai Fu Li had it right
Africa is torn between US, China and US models. China model fits most immediately. EU has most respect for local cultures.
Teaching in Africa now.
I wish 100,000 American children were learning Chinese!
that’s coming soon Bill :p
VIPKID has a sub brand - LingoBus, for American children who wants to learn Mandarin
Online Education - sometimes referred to as "distance learning" or "remote learning" has taken a quantum leap during Covid quarantine. Platforms such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams have seen an explosion of users.Although these are not new technologies, and "distance learning" is a rather mature idea in education , there haven't been many exciting innovations. Anticipating that online education will become a fact of globalized education, can you see a vigorous market for innovative technology in this field?
Has anyone seen the adaptation of AI "Cognification" in academic disciplines such as Industrial engineering or operations research. Are any engineering schools (Stanford maybe?) including AI cognification in their training?
The two Computer Science degree programs I direct, the online one has dou 30%.bled its number of applicants, the on-campus on see application reduced by
online one has doubled, the on-campus one decreased by 30%.
I will posit that, due to the increasing social acceptability of “distant learning’, the real boom will be in ongoing adult education. It will become viewed as an antidote to the rapid pace of change.
@James: not really. Stanford, Berkeley and MIT are fuzing data science and AI with business, social sciences and humanities. But that’s only the groundwork. Companies like IBM and Microsoft are really leading the way in cognitive culture. That’s a blessing and a problem. Academia should lead not follow.
Localization translates to distributed and decentralized resources and operations.
The COVID19 might not be the last pandemic in the near time. CEO need to be prepared for next one :(
Yes Bill, and authority!
Absolutely. Decentralized and distributed authority is critical. Excellent point!
I have to say that while COVID-19 has been a transformative and disruptive phenomenon, it is (we expect) a single point in time phenomenon. It is appropriate for global leaders to confront it, but frankly it pales in comparison to what a far more disruptive and threatening, if slow moving, reality and that is climate change!
Long term sustainability - that’s a REAL issue that is not going away any time soon…
Yes @Bill. The problem is that people don't feel the immediate pain when it comes to climate change.
That is absolutely true, and absolutely the biggest danger. The truly most disruptive and dangerous threat we face as a civilization is ignorance.
